A note from Councilmember Linda Maio

Dear Friends,

By now you likely know that I will be stepping down from the Council in December. I could not possibly do so without knowing I would be leaving the City of Berkeley, and the many people and efforts I cherish, in very good hands. Therefore…

I introduce you to Margo Schueler!linda_and_margo.jpg

Native Californian, 24 year West Berkeley resident, parent, long-time peace and justice advocate—a strong, savvy woman who shares our values and knows how to work to realize them. Margo offers us 20 years of volunteer service in Berkeley. A Berkeley Public Works Commissioner and Watershed protector; BUSD PTA member; Committee member, Indivisible Berkeley; Former Board Member, Bay Area Hispano Institute for Advancement (BAHIA).

And more…

Margo has been a lifelong progressive activist doing work from anti-war movements, union and labor rights not only within her own organizations but for the United Farm Workers, environmental restoration and protection, supporting incarcerated Californians, and as an advocate and mentor for entry level trades workers and women and girls in non-traditional work. She recently traveled with Veterans for Peace to Viet Nam for the commemoration of 50th Anniversary My Lai Massacre with husband, Paul Cox; Participant Call to Action Standing Rock; Organizer and participant Veterans Peace Convoy to Nicaragua; Environmental educator, organic garden coordinator, water issues speaker.

Mentor to girls clubs, high school, community college, community training programs, to promote diversity and inclusion of under-represented communities in the skilled trades; Life member of the Sierra Club, ACLU, Veterans for Peace; several firsts as a woman working in non-traditional sectors - First woman Water Distribution Superintendent, EBMUD, First woman Engineer, Golden Gate Bridge, Highway, and Transportation District, First woman Weld Crew Leadperson, Southwest Marine Company, and among the first women welders sworn into Boilermakers Local 6 (SF Shipyards)

Former Senator Loni Hancock, School Board Director Beatriz Leyva-Cutler, Rev. Mary Breland, and myself join others in endorsing Margo.
